Data System for Assessing Foreign Citizens’ Professional Experience as Equivalent to Higher Education Qualifications and Issuing Documents

The recognition of professional experience as equivalent to a higher education qualification is intended to enable highly qualified foreigners with at least 5 years of professional experience but no higher education diploma to find employment more quickly. A recognition document is issued when the established conditions are met: the job offered by a Lithuanian employer requires a high professional qualification; the profession is not regulated, and the foreigner has no higher education diploma but has at least 5 years of professional experience or at least 3 years of professional experience during the previous 7 years; and the profession in which the foreigner intends to work belongs to major group 1, 2, or 3 of the Lithuanian Classification of Occupations, among other conditions. The system records the specialist’s country of origin, the specific profession and classification code, and information on decisions made.
